Aged Cheddar Hash Brown Melt - The Cheese Shark

Carefully fried golden brown hash browns with an aged cheddar melt on top. Fast and easy to do and always delicious at any time of the day. Try it out with your homemade cheese!

Aged Cheddar Hash Brown Melt

Makes 4 servings.
Preparation time about 20 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 4 large potatoes
  • 2 cups grated aged cheddar
  • 1/4 of an onion finely chopped
  • 2 tsp of cooking oil
  • 2 tsp of butter
  • salt and pepper to taste

Utensils needed:

  • Large frying pan
  • Medium pot
  • Cheese and potato grater
  • Spatula
  • Large plate

Procedure:

  • Boil 4 large potatoes, make sure they are a bit firm inside.
  • Peel them and let them cool.
  • Grate the potatoes and grate 2 cups of aged cheddar.
  • Chop 1/4  of an onion and gently mix with the grated potatoes.
  • In a large frying pan melt each a tsp of butter and a tsp of cooking oil and add the grated potatoes.
  • On medium heat fry until golden brown.
  • Use a spatula to lift the potatoes to check. Once golden brown, place a plate on top of the pan and flip around so the potatoes end up golden side up on the plate.
  • Add more butter and oil to the pan and slide the potatoes from the plate back into the pan.

Melt butter and oil then place the potatoes into the frying pan

Add more butter and oil to the empty frying pan

Once the the potatoes are golden brown, flip them out of the pan onto a plate

Slide the hash browns back into the pan to fry the flip side

  • Add 2 cups of grated aged cheddar to the potatoes and let the cheese melt while frying the other side of the potatoes. You can briefly cover the pan to make the cheese melt faster.
  • Once the flip side is golden brown, slide the hash browns onto a plate and serve.

As soon as the hash browns are flipped add the grated cheese

Once the flip side is golden brown and the cheese is melted, transfer the hash browns onto a plate
